Bill’s Turbo Buzzbait is designed to maximize the turbulence and vibration of your surface presentation. While most buzzbaits are built with heavy wire frames, Bill’s Buzzbait is built with lighter .040" wire. These lighter frames enhance vibration, in turn ringing the dinner bell for hungry bass! The angled wire and flattened head design will also help keep your bait on the surface, even at slower retrieves. Premium components are used, as is the case with all lures Bill puts his name on. Required Tools & Components
Before starting, gather your tools and open up your Lure Parts Online Components. You can source individual items or grab an all-in-one Buzzbait Assembly Kit from the website:
- Long-Nose Pliers / Needle-Nose Pliers (2 pairs): For bending and crimping the heavy wire. 2 pairs will make bending heavy wire much easier (one to hold with and one to bend with).
- Pre-Poured / Pre-Painted Buzzbait Head: There are several styles and colors to choose from. These come with the hook and wire frame already integrated.
- Buzzbait Blade: Your choice of an aluminum delta buzz blade or a plastic buzz blade.
- Hollow Metal Bead: Serves as a bearing for a free-spinning blade.
- Buzzbait Rivet: Acts as the rear contact point for the buzz blade. Can add a squeal to your presentation if crimped tight to wire.
- Silicone Lure Skirt: To dress the hook and give the bait a lifelike pulse.
Step-by-Step Assembly Guide
Step 1: Thread the Bearing Bead
Locate the long, empty upper arm of your pre-poured buzzbait wire frame. Slide the Hollow Metal Bead onto the wire first. Push it all the way down toward the bend closest to the lead jig head. This bead acts as a friction-reducing bearing so your blade spins effortlessly at slow speeds.
Step 2: Install the Buzz Blade
Take your Buzzbait Blade and feed the wire arm through the front eyelet, through the center axis, and out the back eyelet. Ensure the cupped or flared edges of the blade face toward the rear (toward the hook) so it catches the air and water properly.
Pro Tip: Before sliding it on, use your thumbs to slightly cup the blade wings inward. This catches more water, forcing the lure to jump up onto the surface almost instantly when you begin your retrieve.
Step 3: Add the Rivet
Slide the Buzzbait Rivet onto the wire immediately behind the blade. The wide, flat flange of the rivet must face forward, directly contacting the back eyelet of the rotating blade.
Step 4: Make the Safety Bend
Using your long-nose pliers, grip the very end tip of the wire arm (just past the rivet). Bend the wire sharply downward at roughly a 90-degree angle. This acts as a physical stop block so your hardware doesn't fly off during a hard cast. Bending down makes your lure more weedless.
Step 5: Crimp the Rivet for Maximum Sound (The "Squeak" Hack)
Pull the rivet firmly back so it rests snugly right inside that new wire bend. Take your pliers and firmly squeeze/crimp the narrow barrel of the rivet until it is permanently locked onto the wire.
- Why this matters: If the rivet spins freely, your lure will make a quiet, dull hum. Locking the rivet forces the spinning aluminum blade to grind aggressively against the stationary metal flange. This metal-on-metal friction produces a loud, high-pitched "squeak" that bass can track from long distances.
Step 6: Dress it with a Skirt
Pick out your choice of a Silicone Skirt. Hold the skirt with the longer strands facing upward/forward. Guide the point of the main hook directly through the center of the rubber skirt collar. Slide the collar up the hook shank until it seats snugly against the collar base of the painted lead head. Fluff out the strands to ensure a balanced, even presentation.

Bill's Turbo Buzzbait vibrates better than the commercial brands. The medium wire paired with a metal bead, offset aluminum buzz blade, brass rivet, and a custom skirt is unbeatable ! The hook is strong, lethal sharp and lays back for deep penetration. Awesome by design !
