BA505 Bass Academy Signature DT Skirt Material (10pk)
The Signature DT (Double-Tips) Skirt Material was developed to provide serious fishermen with a new palette of unique color patterns for bass jig skirts. The main skirt color morphs into a second color, then morphs again into the outer tip color, giving the skirt a natural progression that adds a whole new dimension to skirt making. The Double Tip portion is then printed with feathered bands to tone down the colors and produce an unmatched subtle and natural effect. This soft and supple silicone material comes in all the hot color combinations. Sold 10 tabs per pack.

Making your own custom fishing skirts is one of the easiest ways to get an advantage on the water. By mixing and matching colors, you can perfectly mimic local forage. Below is a complete step-by-step guide to building your own skirts using an economic skirt tool and rubber collars. (Note - some anglers prefer to tie their own skirts with thread or wire)
Required Tools & Supplies
You can find all of these items under the skirt-making category on the Lure Parts Online Skirt Making Catalog:
- Skirt Making Tool: Skirt tools are designed to help you spread the rubber collar so you can easily insert the skirt materials you are using.
- Silicone or Rubber Skirt Tabs: These come in hundreds of colors and patterns. You will generally use 2 to 3 tabs per skirt depending on how full you want it to look.
- Rubber Skirt Collars (Bands): Available in several colors to match your skirt pattern. Also available with “ears” (attachments) to hold rattles if desired.
- Sharp Scissors: For trimming the tabs.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Load the Skirt Collar
Take one skirt collar and slide it onto the tapered tip of your skirt making tool. Push the collar up onto the main cylinder shaft (barrel) of the tool so it rests out of the way for the next steps. You can load multiple skirt collars on the cylinder shaft before you start the skirt assembly process. This will allow you to make multiple skirts without reloading.
Step 2: Prepare and Stack Your Material
Pick out the silicone or rubber tabs you want to create your custom skirt.
- For a standard spinnerbait, buzzbait or swim jig, stack 2 full tabs together.
- For a bulkier football jig, you can stack up to 3 tabs. Or you can add a half-tab for a highlight color (like orange or chartreuse).
Line up the solid, uncut ends (the tabs) so the sheets are perfectly flush.
Step 3: Hook the Material
Push the inner rod of your skirt tool so the wire hook extends out of the far end of the cylinder. Take your stacked silicone tabs and grab the center of the solid end tabs with the hook. Try to keep the tabs from twisting and bunching up.
Step 4: Pull the Hooked Tabs Into the Tool
Slowly pull the hook backward, drawing the silicone material inside the hollow cylinder of the tool. Pull it through until the material is roughly centered inside the tool, or slightly off-center if you want a skirt to hang evenly after it is assembled.
Step 5: Slide the Collar Onto the Skirt
While holding the material steady, grab the skirt collar that you loaded onto the barrel in Step 1. Roll or slide the collar down off the tool and directly onto the silicone material. Make sure the band snaps tightly around the center of the stacked strands.
Step 6: Release and Trim
Push the skirt material back out of the cylinder and unhook the material. At this point, your strands should be bound together by the collar but still connected by the solid ends.
Take a sharp pair of scissors and cut off the solid tabbed ends on both sides. Once trimmed, the individual strands should immediately separate and flare out.
Pro Tip – Use a fine-tooth comb to groom your skirts and finish separating the strands.
Your custom skirt is now complete and ready to slide onto your favorite jig head, spinnerbait, or buzzbait!

Subtle colors for bass
by The Professor
Good bass skirt material. You get some subtle color, but not too much of it. The black bars mute it just enough. The roadkill color is perfect for my bluegill jigs. I'll be getting more.

This stuff looks great and works even better. I love the way my jigs look and the way my jigs "swim" naturally. Action is second to none. Good product!
