5703 Lee Precision Melter

This is my first melter. It does the job. Melts lead quickly.

Things I learned : The dial is just a number that does not give you any idea of corresponding temperature. The manual just says the top setting is approximately 900F. Would have really liked to know at least an approximate equivalent temperature to the number.

Second, you can't get all the lead out with a ladle. And there's no practical way to pour it out. You really have to leave the lead in. Not a huge deal but while pouring molds, this caused me two problems. First, there was enough lead for a few more jigs, but I could not get it out of the pot. So I had no choice but to melt another pound of lead. Second, if I wanted to pour the little remaining lead into an ingot, I can't.

If I had an opportunity to redo the purchase, I'd get the pourable version of this. Or the one with the dispenser handle.
